Schenk claims Defensive Player of the Week, Forbes named Offensive Player of the Week

Metuchen, NJ — Plenty of talent was on display in the fifth week of United Women’s Soccer Action. Lara Schenk of Chicago Mustangs earned this week’s Defensive Player of the Week honors for her dominance at the back, while Melanie Forbes scored five times to claim the Offensive Player of the Week accolade. 

GK – Madison Clem (Lansing United) – Clem made 12 saves against Chicago Mustangs and was instrumental in helping Lansing United secure a 5-1 win over Chicago KICS.

D – Abby Small (KC Courage) – Small played 90 minutes of solid defense in two different matches as her squad secured a pair of clean sheets. 

D – Lara Schenk  (Chicago Mustangs) – Schenk, a German international, helped shut down opponents in two matches over the weekend in a 2-0 victory over Lansing United and 4-0 over Ladies Steel City F.C. She also scored in the game against Ladies Steel City.

M – Brooke Barbuto (Syracuse DA) – Barbuto assisted on three goals and scored three more in a 10-0 win over Worcester Smiles.

M – Mallory Olsson (Chicago Mustangs) – Olsson scored two goals in the win over Lansing United, and added another goal in the victory over Ladies Steel City F.C.

M – Angie Escobar (Santa Clarita) – Escobar collected a hat trick last weekend — with all of those goals coming in the first half in a 4-1 win over Internacional CA. 

M – Kacey Lawrence (Connecticut Fusion) – Lawrence scored twice and had an assist in a 5-0 win over Rochester Lancers. 

F – Jennifer Blitchok (Midwest United) – Blitchok found the back of the net twice in a battle against Corktown AFC resulting in a 4-2 win.

F – Kelsey Araujo (FC Buffalo) – Araujo scored two goals in 2-1 win over Albany Rush. 

F – Melanie Forbes (Detroit City FC) – Forbes scored five goals in a 10-0 victory over Muskegon Risers.

F – Kenne Kessler (Lone Star Republic) – Kessler played 90 minutes and scored twice in 5-1 win over Bat Country FC. 

Honorable Mentions

D – Isabella Belitic (San Antonio Athenians) – Belitic provided solid defense and scored the winning goal in 2-1 win over WilCo. 

M – Alexis Mitchell (Lansing United) – Mitchell scored two goals in a victory over Chicago KICS. 

M – Claire Mensi (Connecticut Rush) – Mensi scored the opening goal and helped control the midfield in a 4-1 victory over Rochester Lancers. 

M – Sydney Christopher (Saint Louis Scott Gallagher) – Christopher dominated the midfield and scored a goal in a 4-0 victory over Springfield Demize.

M – Jayme Woodfill (FC Austin Elite) – Woodfill assisted on two goals from the attacking midfielder position in a 3-0 victory over CTX Hornets

M – Kayla Duran (Scorpions SC) –  Duran scored a free-kick goal and proved a dominant presence in the midfield in a 6-1 win over Worcester Smiles. 

F – Hannah White (Atlanta Panthers) – White scored and assisted in a 6-3 win over Pensacola FC Academy. 

F – Ramni Noel (Pensacola FC) – Noel scored in the 12th minute to take the lead for her side in what ended as a 2-1 victory over Atlanta Panthers.
