Emma Hiscock leads Corktown AFC scoring outburst; Paige Eli anchors Midwest United defense

METUCHEN, NJ –  Several standout players showcased their talents last week, as United Women’s Soccer began its 2021 season. Midwest United FC, Corktown AFC and Ladies Steel City FC all started their seasons with wins, while players across the Midwest Conference impressed. Corktown AFC’s Emma Hiscock earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Paige Eli of Midwest United FC claimed the Defensive Player of the Week accolade. 

Team of the Week 

GK: Samantha Tuuk, Ladies Steel City FC Tukk made 10 saves in an opening week victory over Chicago KICS 

D: Ashley Barron, Corktown AFC — Barron broke up several counterattacks and helped Corktown AFC keep a clean sheet in its UWS debut 

D: Paige Eli, Midwest United FC — Eli was instrumental at the back for Midwest United in a victory over Lansing United 

D: Victoria Alvarado, Ladies Steel City FC — Alvarado used her strength effectively in a win over Chicago KICS, defending well and pushing the ball up 

M: Brenna Musser, Muskegon Risers — Musser was a bright spot for Muskegon in a difficult loss, showcasing strong defensive play 

M: Ena Sabanagic, Chicago KICS — Sabangic scored the Kicks’ first goal of the season against Steel City Ladies 

M: Maddy Schupbach, Corktown AFC — Schupbach scored twice and assisted on two more Corktown goals in a season-opening win 

F: Camryn Evans, Lansing United — Evans scored against Midwest United in a closely contested match 

F: Emma Hiscock, Corktown AFC — Hiscock had five goal involvements against Muskegon Risers, scoring twice and adding three assists 

F: Katherine Knutte, Ladies Steel City FC — Knutte scored eight minutes into Ladies Steel City’s season, despite a collision with the opposing goalkeeper

F: Stitch Currie, Midwest United FC — Currie scored twice for Midwest United to help make the difference in a win against Lansing United

Offensive Player of the Week — Emma Hiscock, Corktown AFC 

Defensive Player of the Week — Paige Eli, Midwest United FC
