KC Courage adds second team in UWS2; Sunflower State FC joins the Central Conference

Metuchen, NJ — UWS League Two (UWS2) expands further into the Sunflower State, with the addition of two Kansas City-based clubs. KC Courage who fields a team in the first division of UWS will be adding a second team to compete in UWS League Two. Their neighbor, Sunflower State FC will be expanding to the women’s game to field a team in the Central Conference which is set to kick off in 2022.

Founded in 2014, the KC Courage is a non-profit, volunteer run organization promoting and developing the character of young women through the sport of soccer. Inclusion, empowerment and giving back to the community are of paramount importance to the club. To this end, the KC Courage provides a high school soccer alternative training program in the spring and now offers not only one, but two women’s teams competing under the UWS umbrella.

“We’re pleased to have completed our first season in the UWS this past summer. It was everything that we hoped for and we’re looking forward to 2022. We’ve always carried a large player pool and now with adding a second team that will play in the UWS League 2, more of our players will get the opportunity for game minutes. We look forward to being able to add several players from our HS Alternative Program to help field our second team, as well.”

KC Courage plays their home matches at three different venues in Kansas City. For more information on KC Courage, visit their official website. You can also follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Sunflower State FC was established in 2019 and began its journey in semi-professional men’s soccer. Their mission is to provide high level playing opportunities to all types of players that have the passion to play the beautiful game, while creating meaningful impact in players lives and their community through soccer. As a natural next step in their organization’s inclusive makeup, Sunflower State FC is expanding to field a women’s team in UWS League Two.

“After developing the men’s program, we have realized we want to truly create opportunities for everyone,” stated Joseph Lipoff, CEO/Owner. “We wouldn’t be complete without giving the women an opportunity as well.”

“Expanding into the women’s game has been a goal for Sunflower and I am excited to see that goal being met,” said Andrew Lentell, General Manager/Vice President. “I look forward to expanding Sunflower’s mission to provide playing opportunities to the talented women soccer players in the Kansas City area.”

“Adding a women’s team is a huge step in the right direction for our club,” said Nick McDonald, Director of Coaching. “As we all know Kansas City is a hotbed of soccer talent and we couldn’t be happier to provide the same opportunities we are providing on the men’s side to the women’s side as well.”Sunflower State FC will play their home matches at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, KS.
