UWS2 brings Paisley Athletic FC and FC Topeka Wings into fold

METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer will welcome two additional teams to UWS League Two ahead of the 2021 season as part of further expansion in that league. Paisley Athletic FC, of Kearny, NJ, will join the Northeast Conference, while FC Topeka Wings, located in Topeka, Kan., will play in the Central Conference.

Paisley Athletic FC will become the first women’s semi-pro team to be based out of Kearny — known affectionately as Soccertown, USA — when it makes its UWS 2 debut this year. The club was founded on a commitment to advancing women’s soccer and supporting well-rounded athletes through best-in-class athletic and professional development resources. Recruitment for the club’s inaugural team has begun.

The Paisley Athletic Ownership Group released the following statement on the club’s participation in UWS League Two:

“We look forward to Paisley Athletic FC’s debut in the UWS League Two this upcoming 2021 season. As lifelong players, fans, and supporters of women’s soccer, we are excited to connect the rich soccer legacy and competitive nature of our Kearny, NJ, roots with our future-facing aspirations for the women’s game both in NJ and around the country. See you on the pitch.”

The home venue for Paisley Athletic FC will be announced soon. For more information, you can follow them on Twitter and email PaisleyAthleticFC@gmail.com.

FC Topeka Wings will become the third member of UWS League Two’s Central Conference this summer, joining FC Wichita II and Side FC II. The team will be coached by Kiko Magana, the head women’s soccer coach at Highland Community College. The club’s mission is to provide a soccer club for the college athlete who wishes to advance their soccer resume while away from campus. The club derives its name — FC Topeka Wings — from the air force base and law enforcement officers in town. The team will play its home games at Hummer Sports Park, a state-of-the-art athletic facility with seating capacity for almost 1,500 people. Stay tuned for more expansion to the conference soon.

“We are excited to join the UWS League Two and look forward to making an impact within the league,” President and General Manager Shawn Smith said. “We believe we will have a solid and firm team that will make an impact as soon as we take the pitch.”
