METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer heads into the second week of regular season play, as the East and Southwest conferences begin their seasons on May 15. Eighteen teams in total are in action this weekend, alongside four teams from UWS League Two.

The first day of East Conference action features one of the conference’s most historically successful sides and one of its newcomers. New England Mutiny took home the East Conference’s regular-season title a season ago and will look to take the first step toward a repeat, hosting UWS newcomers Scorpions SC. Despite their status as UWS debutants, Scorpions SC has a strong reputation of their own, notably producing USWNT players Sam and Kristie Mewis.

Worcester Smiles will look to continue making strong progress and establish themselves as a contender in the East Conference, hosting the Long Island Rough Riders to begin their season. Long Island Rough Riders have also built themselves a solid foundation heading into the new campaign, after earning a place in the East Conference playoffs last season.

Albany Rush are set to make their UWS debut on the road against Connecticut Fusion, who have proven to be contenders in the East Conference after finishing second in the last two seasons. As they look to make the jump to the top of the standings this season, three points here will be crucial, while Albany Rush will hope to set a solid foundation in their first match in the league.

Venue: Aquinas Institute (Rochester, NY)
Another UWS expansion club will play its first game in the league on Sunday, as FC Buffalo pays a visit to Rochester Lancers. FC Buffalo will have hopes of beginning its tenure in the league with a solid showing, while Rochester Lancers are looking to bounce back from missing the playoffs in the East Conference last season.

MSC Peoria will begin its first full season in UWS after joining the league in 2020 at home against Ladies Steel City FC. The visitors have already gotten their campaign underway, having earned three points against Chicago KICS.

Venue: Keyworth Stadium (Hamtramck, MI)
Two clubs playing their inaugural UWS seasons will clash at Keyworth Stadium, as Detroit City hosts Muskegon Risers. Detroit City is opening its season in hopes of collecting three quick points at home. Muskegon Risers will look to put a difficult debut behind them, after falling 8-0 to Corktown AFC in their UWS debut.

Corktown AFC will look to ride the momentum of its eight-goal outburst as it hosts Lansing United. The Hoops will need to solidify their defense against the potent attack of Corktown AFC, after conceding four times against Midwest United in their season opener.

Venue: Case Community Soccer Complex (Sand Springs, OK)
The Southwest Conference begins play with a pair of clubs making their official UWS debut. Side FC 92 will play their inaugural game after becoming the first UWS club based in the state of Oklahoma, while Alacranes Fort Worth will look to start on the right foot in their first match in the league as well.

Venue: Soccer Central (San Antonio, TX)
Two clubs with intriguing rosters will clash in San Antonio on Saturday, as SA Athenians take on FC Austin Elite. SA Athenians feature defender Ashley Cathro, a Canadian youth international and Vancouver Whitecaps youth player. FC Austin Elite will feature numerous players with professional experience, including Satara Murray of the Houston Dash.
