Metuchen, NJ — A new United Women’s Soccer (UWS) team is kicking off in 2022 out of Lansing, Michigan. After Lansing United’s announcement that they would cease operations following the 2021 season, team owner Jeremy Sampson was hopeful another organization would pick up where their women’s team left off and build upon its legacy. UWS is proud to welcome Cap City Athletic 1847 to take the pitch!
“We are both excited and humbled that the UWS would choose Cap City Athletic 1847 to join the league. We feel that it is important for the young players in mid-Michigan to be able to see first-hand the type of player that they aspire to be,” said President Dan Jury. “Jeremy Sampson and Lansing United set a high standard and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue building that culture as we take up the reins and join the UWS.”
“We are excited to welcome Cap City Athletic 1847 to UWS,” said League Commissioner Joe Ferrara. “The Lansing market has proven to be a successful area for our league as demonstrated by the efforts of Jeremy Sampson with Lansing United and we are confident that Cap City will carry the torch.”
Founded in 2014 by Eric DeLonge, Stacy DeLonge, and Dan Jury, Cap City’s focus is on developing players, building character, and cultivating a lifelong passion for the beautiful game. They join UWS as a natural progression for their club in offering a pathway for female players to compete at a high level and continue development.
Cap City will also continue to provide role models for the youth of Lansing and aim to empower future players, coaches, and fans. Cap City Athletic 1847 is a 510(c)(3) non-profit organization that is community driven, contributing to several charitable events including the Capital Area Down Syndrome Association (CADSA) soccer clinic, Foster Kids Holiday Gift Giving, the Cancer Awareness Month Fundraiser, and Lansing River Trail Clean-Up.
Cap City Athletic 1847 will be featured tonight on UWS Weekly – the league’s official live show. Tune in at 7:30pm ET, as host Jonathan Ward sits down with Eric & Stacy DeLonge and Dan Jury of Cap City to discuss plans for their women’s team. You can catch the show on YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter.
