Metuchen, NJ – The United Women’s Soccer (UWS) national pro-am league is excited to announce expansion into Maine. Maine Footy will be the first-ever UWS team in the state, set to begin play in 2023.
“We are excited to welcome Maine Footy to UWS,” said League Commissioner Joe Ferrara. ”Their organization’s commitment to excellence and high standards compliments what we look for in clubs. It’s evident that they will be an excellent addition to the league. Their dedication to a top competitive team with simultaneous investment back into the community should raise the bar in helping drive positive change for our youth.”
Based in Portland, ME, Maine Footy is dedicated to building a championship-caliber women’s soccer team led by elite players, proven coaches, and a community of supporters who care as much about winning on the pitch as they do in leading, mentoring, and giving-back off the pitch. With a strong network of corporate sponsors and the global growth of women’s soccer, Maine Footy has built upon a tremendous infrastructure and social framework that provides the resources with a common goal of investing into youth athletes as players and leaders; striving to use the pro-am women’s soccer team as a platform to address positive growth in the community and sustainable change for southern Maine.
Todd Sniper, Technical Director of Football, is leading a group of proven coaches with college and club experience to spearhead the inaugural season. As a former college coach, USSF “A” Licensed coach, Soccer Maine Director of Coaching, and current U.S. Soccer National Instructor with over 25 years of experience at the elite club and ODP levels, he will be setting the highest training and competition standards.
This all begins with bringing together the top tier college-rank soccer talent in New England and beyond. With the help of top notch Maine-based corporate sponsors providing the resources to operate a properly funded team, Maine Footy looks forward to sustaining a highest quality team.
“This is exciting for Maine Footy, our players and the community to bring the best pro-am women’s football to Maine,” said Technical Director Todd Sniper. “We want to thank UWS for allowing Maine Footy to be part of this ultimate league. Not only are we excited about providing our players an extraordinary experience in Portland, but also being able to provide our youth supporters with top class players, matches and year-round enrichment programs”
