METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer (UWS) sees it’s first team move up from League Two with the addition of the CTX Hornets to the 2021 Southwest Conference lineup of teams. The South Austin, TX-based organization was slated to debut in the new developmental pathway for U20-U23 players in 2020 but the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the national pro-am league has granted approval for the Hornets to make the jump and they will compete against Bat Country FC (Austin, TX), FC Austin Elite, Dallas International FC, San Antonio Athenians and Side FC 92 (Tulsa, OK) this upcoming season. Stay tuned for further additions to the UWS Southwest Conference in the coming days.
“We are excited to add to our footprint in the Southwest region with the addition of the CTX Hornets,” stated UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara Jr. “They join a conference that has shown the ability to succeed on and off the field and we feel CTX will provide the same level of competition and atmosphere.”
“The CTX Hornets are proud to become the newest member of the UWS Southwest Conference, after the cancellation of our inaugural 2020 UWS League 2 season,” said CTX Hornets Head Coach Carlos Medina. “I’m excited and it’s an honor moving up to the national pro-am level. I can assure you that we will put 100% commitment to help the Hornets be successful in UWS this year and against formidable competition.”
The CTX Hornets are a project of the Central Texas Lobos Soccer Club. The Lobos began operations in 2016 and serve the South Austin/Kyle/Buda vicinity. The club has been a part of the Austin soccer community under a different club name since 1996. After moving back to the Central Texas area in 2003 from non-profit work in Seattle, WA, Club Founder and President David Walding developed a long-term vision for the club focused on opportunities for all players, eliminating barriers: culturally, financially, societally.
