Round Rock, TX — United Women’s Soccer has crowned its 2021 National Champion. Santa Clarita Blue Heat claimed its second UWS title with a convincing 5-0 victory over Connecticut Fusion on Sunday at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The victory caps off an unbeaten season for the Blue Heat, who proved deserving champions after putting on a pair of dominant performances on the national stage. They limited CT Fusion to just one shot on target in the final.
Blue Heat took control toward the latter stages of the first half, when Olufolasade Adamolekun played an excellent ball to the back post for Lena Silano to head home and begin the scoring. Blue Heat struck again just before the halftime whistle. This time, Angeles Escobar collected a rebound and slotted it into the back of the net to double the advantage.
When the second half began, Blue Heat quickly eliminated any remaining doubt over the result. Adamolekun latched onto another rebound near the top of the 18, putting her strike from distance into the back of the net to make it a 3-0 Blue Heat lead in the 47th minute. Two minutes later, Silano grabbed her second goal of the game, this time with an assist by Gisele Thompson. Iris Rabot scored directly from a corner to cap off the scoring.
In total, Blue Heat won their two National Championship Tournament games by an aggregate score of 9-0, rolling to the title after claiming the inaugural UWS title back in 2016.
Silano was named MVP of the national final for her two-goal performance, proving a crucial cog in the lethal Blue Heat attack.
