METUCHEN, NJ – The newly-formed Southeast Conference of United Women’s Soccer (UWS) has picked up a historically-successful organization to help cement its presence in the region. The Pensacola FC Women will not only field their acclaimed First Team in UWS but their Academy Team (established in 2019) as well. Both teams will join Atlanta Panthers SC in the conference with more expansion news in the Southeast pipeline.
Founded as the Gulf Coast Texans in 2011, the team captured the 2012 & 2019 titles in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) and made five national championship appearances in seven seasons. The Pensacola FC Women closed out their 2019 season with an impressive 12-0-0 undefeated record. The club also fields men’s teams in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and NPSL U-19 as well as the Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL).
“We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Pensacola FC to United Women’s Soccer,” said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara. “The program has proven to be one of the best women’s organizations in the nation at this level. The First Team has won multiple national championships and it will be a force in UWS.”
“Our staff are excited for this new challenge and looking forward to the 2021 season,” said PFC Head Coach & Technical Director David Kemp. “We felt it was time for a change, and are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get back on the training pitch to continue developing players.”
David Kemp has been embedded in the Pensacola area soccer community since arriving to play for the University of West Florida in 1994. His teams have attended major tournaments and showcases like the Disney Showcase, Raleigh Shootout and USYS Regional Semi-Finals. Kemp has seen over 200 players continue on to play in college and has built strong relationships with UWF and all the surrounding colleges in the Southeast.
