METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is excited to follow 14 UWS alumnae as they participate in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Challenge Cup, beginning this weekend. The one-off tournament features eight NWSL teams playing 23 games in eight match days in Herriman, Utah through July 13. Each team will then be seeded according to record and entered into the knockout round, culminating with the final on July 26 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
“I look forward to watching many of our UWS alums take the pitch on Saturday and I am extremely excited about the return of the NWSL. It is amazing to see so many former players on professional teams, here and abroad, in the league’s four years of existence”, states League Commissioner Joe Ferrara.
UWS will have its 14 former players spread out over seven teams in the tournament, meaning each game will feature at least one UWS alumnae.

UWS returns to play with two league-sanctioned showcases in the Midwest Conference – the UWS Midwest Showcase and UWS Stadium Showcase. The Midwest Showcase, hosted by Midwest United FC, will take place from July 17-19 in Kentwood, Michigan. The Stadium Showcase, hosted by Detroit City FC, will take place from July 24-25 at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Michigan.
