Professional NISA club now has a pro-am women’s team under its umbrella

METUCHEN, NJ – United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is proud to announce that expansion has come to the Midwest as Michigan Stars FC will join the conference lineup for the 2021 season. MSFC is a professional men’s soccer team currently participating in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA): the third tier on the American soccer pyramid. The women’s team will primarily consist of college athletes nationwide with an emphasis placed on in-state players. Future plans will include players from their newly formed youth club creating a competitive pathway from youth to adult.

“Our mission at United Women’s Soccer is to accept teams throughout the U.S. and Canada that add value in promoting the sport of women’s soccer,” said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara Jr. “With their experience in operating a professional team in NISA, along with their commitment to providing the same level of professionalism for its women’s side, the Michigan Stars fit that criteria.”

“We are very excited to join UWS!” said Michigan Stars FC General Manager Chris McInally. “Youth soccer plays such a huge role in thousands of young girls’ lives in Michigan. We are excited to announce an opportunity for these players to begin their careers in youth soccer and finish their career playing pro-am as adults… all with the same club. We are also excited to bring high level soccer for young girls to watch and emulate.”

Michigan Stars Sports Center (formerly Total Sports Park) in Washington Township, Michigan is the home for the professional men’s team and its U-23 developmental counterpart. It will also serve in the same capacity for the new women’s pro-am team. Michigan Stars Sports Center is an 80-acre soccer complex that contains 23 outdoor fields as well as a 118,000 square-foot indoor facility containing one full size 11v11 field. Coaching staff and tryouts for the women’s side will be announced at a later date.

The Michigan Stars Football Club (MSFC) is a history rich soccer club that has enhanced the lives of both youth and adults through sport. MSFC was created from a vision to bring high quality soccer to the local community. In working towards this goal, MSFC continues to instill the importance of teamwork to its members and fans alike. They form the platform from which MSFC effectively grows its community involvement, business partnerships and fan base to create a thriving, family-friendly entertainment hub in Metro-Detroit.
