METUCHEN, NJ – The New England Conference of United Women’s Soccer (UWS) League Two is filling up it’s team lineup with two more additions for the Summer 2021 campaign. Aztec Soccer Club and South Shore Select will push the number up to eight teams who will compete for the conference crown in the revitalized region of pro-am soccer. The reserve teams for the Albany Rush, Connecticut Fusion, New England Mutiny and Worcester Smiles as well as Massachusetts-based New England Futbol Club & Upper 90 Soccer Academy will also take part this summer.
Based out of Topsfield on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Aztec Soccer Club has been at the forefront of women’s amateur soccer development since its inception in 2000. Most notably, Boston Aztec became the reserve team for the Boston Breakers of now-defunct Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) in 2009 and just one year later captured the WPSL National Championship. In addition to fielding both women’s and men’s U23 teams during the summer, Aztec offers boys & girls teams in every age group from the U8-U19 levels. The club works with more than 1,000 players across Massachusetts and New Hampshire and has placed more than 400 players into collegiate level soccer programs.
“We could not be more excited to join UWS and compete against some of the best players in the region,” said Aztec Soccer Club President Mike Kersker. “For twenty years, Aztec Soccer Club has been committed to providing professional-level development to up-and-coming regional talent and this is the absolute best platform for us to continue to achieve that.”
Based out of Hingham, MA, South Shore Select’s goal is to develop strong, confident and well-rounded young women through the game of soccer. The club wants their players to remember their time on the soccer field as a positive, competitive and heartfelt experience that prepares them for future endeavors. Several players currently participate in United States Soccer National Training Centers and US Club Soccer Training Programs. In addition, Select alumnae have played at top colleges such as Harvard University, Syracuse University, Boston College, Northeastern, Penn State, UCLA, and UNC.
“We are excited to be a part of UWS League Two,” said South Shore Select Academy Director and Director of College Consulting & Advising Katie Schoepfer. “This is a great opportunity to give to our players to continue to expand their development as they enter college. We are committed to providing an exciting and structured environment that will help players grow and prepare for the next steps in their soccer careers.”
