METUCHEN, NJ — United Women’s Soccer alumna Stephanie Labbé will apply her craft on the big stage on Friday, August 6, when she leads Team Canada into the Olympic Gold Medal Match against Sweden.
Labbé spent four seasons with New England Mutiny before joining the professional ranks. She also played one season with Calgary Foothills WFC in 2018.
Labbé has proved crucial for the Canadians during their Olympic run, starting four of their five matches during the tournament thus far.
She started between the sticks for Canada in both of its knockout games, keeping clean sheets against Brazil and the United States — the top-ranked side in the world according to FIFA.
The Gold Medal Game is slated for 8:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, and will air on the USA Network in the United States.
Another UWS alumna — Catarina Macario — will also be competing for a medal on Thursday.
Macario claimed MVP honors at the UWS National Championships in 2019, playing with LA Galaxy OC.
She will be part of the USWNT side taking on Australia at 4:00 a.m. EDT. That game will also air on the USA Network.
