Lansing United earns third-place with 3-0 victory over Livonia City

HAMTRAMCK, MI – Lansing United put in a dominating performance on Sunday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 victory over Livonia City FC (UWS-2) to claim third-place in the United Women’s Soccer Stadium Showcase. Three different scorers found twine for The Hoops in the win, while team captain Anna Stinson tallied two assists.

Lansing United held court for much of the opening stanza, and finally broke through in the 15th minute. Stinson chased down a through ball on the right flank, cut into the box, and sent a weighted ball through the box. Sabrina McNeill was able to beat both the Livonia City keeper and a nearby defender to the ball first, and she one-timed it for an early 1-0 advantage.

Lansing doubled their lead just nine minutes later, as a quick throw-in caught Livonia City off guard, and found the feet of Stinson in the box. The captain once again was able to pick out a teammate in front of goal – this time Kaley Buck was the recipient. Buck took a few small touches to her right, and found an open far post for a 2-0 lead.

Livonia’s best chances to get on the board came after the half in the 57th minute. City forced a diving stop at the near post. The ensuing corner kick was nodded down in front of goal, but the second attempt was booted over the crossbar.

The Hoops kept up the pressure well into the second half, ringing two shots off the crossbar within a four minute span. The first chance came in the 65th minute, as Alyvia Thorne doinked one off the post, and Stinson rang one soon after in the 69th minute after an impressive dribbling display through two defenders.

Kristi Bowden made good on her effort a minute later for Lansing, polishing off a cross from the left flank from McNeill for the final 3-0 margin.

A fourth goal was nearly added in the 90th, but Maddalyn Freitas rattled yet another Hoops attempt off the crossbar.
