What is the UWS National Championship Tournament?
The United Women’s Soccer National Championship Tournament is a four-team event that will crown the national champion for the 2021 season in UWS — a national pro-am women’s soccer league composed of professionally operated clubs within the U.S. and Canada. Four teams representing four different conferences will take part in the event. The action begins on Friday, July 23rd, with the first of two semifinals set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. CDT. The second semifinal will follow at 8:30 p.m. The two winners earn the right to play for the National Championship on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Who is partaking in the UWS National Championship Tournament?
The four teams competing in the UWS National Championship Tournament come from all over the United States, having earned the right to participate by winning their conferences. Midwest United FC arrives with an unbeaten record — 11 wins and 1 draw. Midwest United was crowned the champion of the Midwest North Conference, then navigated a joint playoff system with the Central Conference to earn a place in the tournament. Joining them is Connecticut Fusion, who finished the regular season as the third seed in the East Conference at 5-2-3 but rode a pair of 2-0 victories in the playoffs to a conference title. SA Athenians finished second in the Southwest Conference in the regular season behind Lone Star Republic despite a 9-1 regular-season record, but earned revenge by besting them to claim a spot in the National Championships. The final bid goes to SC Blue Heat, who claimed their place by winning the regular-season title in the West Conference, finishing the season with a 4-0-2 record. Blue Heat joins Midwest United as the only two sides in UWS not to suffer a loss to this point in the year.
Where is the UWS National Championship Tournament being held?
The entirety of the UWS National Championship Tournament will take place at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. The same facility hosted a number of Southwest Conference games over the course of the regular season.
