Metuchen, NJ — United Women’s Soccer is excited to announce the addition of Edgewater Castle FC. The Chicago-based club will join the Central Conference for the 2023 season. The team will play its home games at the Fire Pitch, the training center for the Chicago Fire of MLS.
“We are thrilled to add Edgewater Castle FC to UWS,” said League Commissioner Joe Ferrara. “The organization checked all the boxes that we are looking for from on the field to off the field.”
Edgewater Castle FC was established in 2017 as a community soccer club dedicated to providing opportunities for its players and fans of the beautiful game in Chicago, while simultaneously eliminating barriers. Operating in the Midwest Premier League, Edgewater Castle FC has fielded a highly successful men’s team. Its women’s team is now poised to make the leap to United Women’s Soccer.
“Edgewater Castle FC is beyond excited to be joining UWS in 2023,” said Co-Founder and GM Andrew Swanson. “Since the club’s founding in 2017, we have worked hard to grow organically to the point that both our men’s and women’s teams are not only competing at an equally high level but that players from our squads are supported equitably and provided the same opportunities to train, learn and grow. UWS has given us that opportunity this year by providing our women’s team with high-level competition, heightened league standards, and a chance at a national trophy. Though we’ve just started this journey, we are extremely proud to be where we are as a club in 2023. We’d also like to take the opportunity to thank UWS staff for their support and guidance throughout this process.”
Edgewater Castle’s home venue is the Fire Pitch (3626 N Talman Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60618). For more information on Edgewater Castle, visit their official website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
