METUCHEN, NJ – The Chicago Mustangs who currently field a women’s team in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) will be joining the Midwest Conference of United Women’s Soccer (UWS) for the 2021 season. Founded in 2012, the Chicago Mustangs are one of the very few clubs in the Windy City area with more than six years of experience competing at the professional level, and now have a men’s team in Major Arena Soccer League 2 (MASL 2) & (PASL).
“We are ecstatic about expanding UWS into one of the most renowned sports cities in the United States. The ownership group’s philosophy and activation elements discussed to fulfill its vision is basically the foundation in which we created UWS. This organization will be a positive addition to the league,” stated League Commissioner Joe Ferrara.
“The Chicago Mustangs are proud to become the newest member of United Women’s Soccer,” said Chicago Mustangs President Armando Gamboa. “Our goal is to mirror the success from our men’s side while helping young and talented female players get the experience and exposure necessary to reach the pro level. We are entering a new era with our club and we feel the timing could not be better.”
“The high-level standards and reputation of UWS only compliments the culture and identity of our brand. We are confident in the quality of the team we will assemble and excited for the opportunity to compete against some of the best soccer clubs in the country.”
Some of the Chicago Mustangs’ major accomplishments include winning the Ron Newman’s Cup and the US Open Mini Futbol championship in 2014, the MASL 2 National Championship in 2018 as well as the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) National Championship in 2019. Most recently, the Mustangs have restructured their brand for the purpose of becoming a true player developmental club. The primary focus has shifted to identifying young talented players, helping them develop further and channeling them into the collegiate and professional ranks.
In addition to the women’s side in UWS, the Mustangs will be expanding further by fielding a men’s outdoor team in the Midwest Premier League (MWPL). Playing in these two leagues will create the opportunity for year-round competition. The team’s outdoor home facility will be the stadium field at Harper College in Palatine, IL. The first tryout for the UWS team will be on Sunday, February 21st (4-6:00 PM) at Grand Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL.
