“We are excited to welcome Atlanta Fire to UWS as we look to grow the Southeast Conference,” said League Commissioner Joe Ferrara. “Having one of the premier youth organizations in the region is a great springboard to this goal.”
Founded as West Gwinnett Soccer Club in 1980, Atlanta Fire United boasts a long history of providing opportunities for youth to enjoy the beautiful game. The club strives to offer a soccer program of equal quality for both boys and girls, and presents opportunities for those of all interest and skill levels with its Academy and Select programs.
Its mission is to develop a culture that encourages the personal development skills and abilities of all players in a nurturing environment.
Atlanta Fire United’s boys and girls teams compete in the highly competitive Elite Clubs National League (ECNL).
The addition of a UWS side provides a player pathway from Atlanta Fire United’s youth teams to the pro-am level. The UWS Team is spearheaded by Mirza Mustafic (Executive Director), Domenic Martelli (UWS Team Head Coach), and Garth Polloinais (Director of Coaching & UWS Team Assistant Coach).
“On behalf of our Atlanta Fire United soccer family, we are very excited to be part of the UWS league,” said Head Coach Domenic Martelli. “This will be a great opportunity for our Club to have former AFU players continue their playing career as preparation for their College seasons or just to fulfill their soccer goals to play in one of the highest level women’s soccer leagues in the country.”
