Barry, Sesselmann and Smith claim UWS Week 2 awards 

Metuchen, NJ – The performance level keeps rising as the United Women’s Soccer season gains steam, with plenty of brilliance to highlight in the second edition of the UWS Team of the Week. In goal, Maddie Smith’s stellar performance on the way to a vital clean sheet earned her the weekly honors. Lauren Sesselmann claimed Defensive Player of the Week with her stout defending in a 4-0 victory. At the top of the pitch, Catherine Barry’s four goals helped her earn the Offensive Player of the Week award.

Team of the Week

GK – Maddie Smith (Coppermine United) Last season’s UWS2 Mid-Atlantic Goalkeeper of the Year did not disappoint, showcasing her athleticism and confidence in goal on her way to a clean sheet. 

D – Lauren Sesselmann (Santa Clarita Blue Heat) The Canadian Olympic Medalist demonstrated her veteran leadership, helping her team earn a 4-0 shutout in their first game of the season.

D – Kelsey Hill (Los Angeles SC) – Kelsey Hill dominated at the center of the Los Angeles SC back 3 in a 3-2 win for the UWS debutants over Kongo SC. Hill didn’t allow any chances, won the vast majority of her challenges, controlled the back and was also good in the buildup. 

D – Mia Hansen (Cap City Athletic) – Mia Hansen posted three assists from her outside back position. She was a tireless worker up and down the flank creating several chances on top of her three helpers in a 7-1 win over Muskegon.

M – Mallory Olsson (Chicago Mustangs) – Mallory Olsson re-emphasized her status as one of the top players across UWS with a four-goal performance in the first half of a victory over RBFC Elite. 

F – Catherine Barry (New England Mutiny) – Not to be outdone, Catherine Barry turned in a standout attacking performance of her own, scoring four goals in a 5-1 win over CT Rush. 

F – Ariana Mondiri (Gretna Elite ) – Likewise, Arina Mondiri shined bright for Gretna Elite, pouring in four goals during a game against Arkansas Comets. 

F – Tegan Morrison (FC Berlin) – Tegan Morrison scored a hat trick and was a constant nightmare for the Pittsburgh defense in an outstanding overall showing. 

F – Alexa Fraley (Indiana Union) – It’s difficult to imagine a more productive game than the one turned in by Alexa Fraley against Illinois Premier, scoring four goals and posting three assists. 

F – Allie Ross (Atlanta Panthers) – Allie Ross created for herself and her teammates, scoring a hat trick of excellent goals in an Atlanta Panthers victory.

F – Enzi Broussard (SA Athenians) – Enzi Broussard was an unstoppable force against FC WilCo, with her hat trick of highlight-reel goals making the difference. 

Honorable Mention

M – Nina Nicosia (Chicago Mustangs) – 1 goal in game vs SLSG,  1 goal and 6 assists vs RBFC Elite

M – Maya Carter (Corktown Hawks) – 2 goals and 1 assist vs Muskegon Risers 

M – Courtney Claassen (KC Courage) – 2 goals and 1 assist vs Gretna Elite

M – Michelle Gonzalez (Luxoria FC) – 1 goal and 1 assist vs SA Athenians 

M – Iris Rabot (Santa Clarita Blue Heat) – 1 goal and 2 assists vs SC Kongo.

F – Carissima Cutrona (FC Buffalo) – 1 goal and 1 assist vs FC Berlin. 

F – Kira Maguire (Scorpions SC) – 2 goals and 3 assists vs Worcester Smiles. 

F – Katelyn Krohn (Albany Rush) – 1 goal and 1 assist vs CT Fusion.
