All eyes track westward for conference’s fifth season of competition

METUCHEN, NJ – The West Conference will commence its fifth season of competition in United Women’s Soccer (UWS) on Saturday May, 15th with a matchup between two new member teams. Kongo Soccer Club will host Internacional Club Atlético at Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex in Ogden, UT for a 6:00 PM MDT kick-off.

The expansion sides will look to start their inaugural campaigns on the good foot as the UWS West is a perennial national championship contender. In the four years of competition in the national pro-am league, two of the UWS title-holders (Santa Clarita Blue Heat in 2016 & LA Galaxy OC in 2019) have come from this conference.

”The West will be a conference like no other, composed of three new expansion teams that will showcase their talents for the first time in the UWS against two of the top teams in the league,” said West Conference Commissioner Faust Mejia. “We expect a high level of competition and fun matches to watch. Each team is excited and looking forward to kicking things off this summer.”

The two-time defending West champion Calgary Foothills Women’s Football Club will start their 2021 season on Saturday, May 29th with an Alberta Derby against another new team in St. Albert Soccer Association (SASA) Impact FC. Former Calgary Head Coach & current SASA mentor Troye Flannery will want to send a message to his old team in the Impact’s home opener. Kick-off is 2:00 PM MDT at the Stadium Field of Reil Recreation Park in St. Albert, AB.

The West Conference regular season concludes on Saturday, July 17th when SASA Impact FC travels to Kongo SC in what may prove to be a title-deciding match. The new Canadian team has had an impressive preseason so far and this may be their chance to put themselves over the top in their first season. Kick-off is 6:00 PM MDT at Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex.

The UWS West regular season champion will automatically qualify for the four-team National Championship held the weekend of July 23-25.
